A special hello to new subscribers! Whether you joined because you read my post about my lost dog or you are a consummate book lover or artist or writer, I’m happy you are here.
We are back from a quick road trip up the coast to San Francisco.
After a summer hiatus, my book recommendation podcast, Books Are My People, is back! You can listen to it wherever you catch your pods or click here. Like what you hear? Please leave a rating wherever you listen; it helps other book lovers discover my podcast!
Okay, onto today’s post.
I am a compulsive list maker (any fellow list makers out there?) I definitely start more lists than I ever actually get through, but there’s something so satisfying in taking all the jumble moving around in my head and concretely declaring it on a piece of paper. It feels like transforming chaos into calm.
One of the many lists I keep is an itemization of films and TV shows I want to watch. I try and keep track of what channel each show is on and the general feel (dark, funny, etc.) and then once I watch it, I put a check next to it if I liked it and an X if I did not. Recently, I was perusing my list, not sure what I was in the mood for, when I came across a documentary called The Booksellers about the world of rare books in New York City.
This film is such a gem and since we recently visited New York, so many of the bookstores I went to were featured in the film including, The Strand:
And Argosy:
Who knew it was owned by sisters? And I met two of them while I was there!
Everyone in this film is so passionate about books; they certainly are my people. I believe it’s available on Amazon Prime and Peacock. Have you seen this documentary? Are there other book documentaries out there that I should add to my to watch list? Let me know in the comments below.
And speaking of lists, more soon, but I’ve recently added what I’m calling “The Listmaker” to my upcycled book journals for creatives on Etsy. Use the code SUBSTACKBOOKS by August 31st for 25% off everything in the store.
