I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be brave. Yes, maybe Sarah Bareillas’ Brave is playing in my head on a loop. But as a fledging going-public-with-my-visual-art artist, I’m tapping into my inner fearlessness.
It’s not my go-to general state.
I’m afraid of lots of things: air travel, bridges, earthquakes, clowns. The list goes on and on.
But I think I can be pretty brave when it comes to putting myself out there with my creative endeavors. I’ve done it with theater, music, creative writing. So, I went for it with my art and sent some pieces out to a few journals, just to see what might happen.
A few weeks later, I got a notice that my work had been selected to be featured in The Nelligan Review, a bilingual literary and cultural publication out of Montreal.
Yesterday, it was published!

It pays to be brave.

Congratulations on your article in the publication! I love how you write and how your voice sounds on your podcast.
It’s very clear and calming.
Being brave... it’s funny, my husband asked if I wanted to go on a helicopter ride with him... I said no thanks... to me, being brave is when you step out of comfort zone maybe to push yourself in the direction you had always dreamed of going with your passion, career...
I’m not really scared to go in a helicopter - but it’s not on my to do list...i would rather go for an adventure in the Amazon... or explore the streets of Morocco.
