Books Are My People Weekly Newsletter
out today, paperback releases and more!
Dear Reader,
It’s been a week! My younger son broke his wrist playing hockey at the very end of August and after having it set not once, but twice, had to have surgery where they broke it and set it a third time, this time, with pins. It all happened rather quickly and I’m glad he’s on the other side of this painful experience. Wishing him a speedy recovery so he can get back on the ice and do the thing that he loves most.
Do you enjoy coffee? Tea? Perhaps hot cocoa while you read? Books Are My People: The Mug is here! It’s fun, the logo is on both sides of the mug. You can purchase yours here! I also think they’d make a fun holiday gift if you’re a planner.
A new episode of Books Are My People is out. You can listen here. I had the pleasure of speaking with Janice Hallett, author of the recently published The Examiner. And Caroline Woods, author of The Mesmerist shares a book recommendation.
Let Me Help You Discover Books You Might Not Otherwise Read! You can learn more about me by visiting my introductory post here.

Out Today (I’ve starred the ones I’ve read)
*The Wildes by Louis Bayard
Love Oscar Wilde? This novel recasts writer Oscar Wilde's wife Constance and two sons out from the shadows of history and creates a vivid and poignant story of secrets, loss, and love.
A Sunny Place for Shady People by Mariana Enriquez
Getting excited for Halloween? A diabolical collection of stories featuring achingly human characters whose lives intertwine with ghosts, goblins, and the macabre.
Lola in the Mirror by Trent Dalton
For the artists: A girl and her mother have been on the run for sixteen years from the monster they left in their kitchen with a knife in his throat and the police who want to make them pay for his death. Home is now a van with four flat tires in a junkyard by the edge of the Brisbane River. The girl has no name, because names are dangerous when you're on the run. But she has a dream. A vision of a life as an artist.
Lola in the Mirror is illustrated with black-and-white line art throughout.
*Entitlement by Rumaan Alam
Like dark social. critiques? This is a novel of money and morality - a young woman goes to work for a wealthy philanthropist in New York City.
The Night We Lost Him by Laura Dave
For readers who love propulsive thrillers. In this riveting novel from the author of The Last Thing He Told Me, estranged siblings discover their father has been keeping a secret for more than fifty years, one that may have been fatal.
Paperback Releases:
*The Future by Naomi Alderman
A handful of friends plot a daring heist to save the world from the tech giants whose greed threatens life as we know it.
King of the Armadillos by Wendy Chin-Tanner
I love this cover! A novel about family, love, and belonging, set against the backdrops of 1950s New York City and Louisiana, following one young man's quest to survive an often misunderstood disease, and find love, music, and himself, in the process.
The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok
An evocative family drama and a riveting mystery about the ferocious pull of motherhood for two very different women.
The Most Famous Girl in the World by Iman Hariri-Kia
Campy, satirical, and utterly hilarious, The Most Famous Girl in the World is both a scathing indictment of modern celebrity and a thrilling rollercoaster ride of unhinged hijinks that will keep you gasping at every turn of the page.

I’ve been going through my camera roll from when the kids were little and trying to paint some memories, which led me down this rabbit hole of some hand-sewn sock bunnies I made for the kids one Easter. I definitely want to go big with these two, but still working out colors and how loose I want to paint them on a big piece of paper.
I hope you all have a wonderfully bookish week! Which one would you like to read first? Which books did I miss?
