Books Are My People Weekly Newsletter
out today, paperback releases and more!
This week’s newsletter is sponsored by Paris Lost and Found: A Memoir of Love by Scott Dominic Carpenter.
In his latest book, Paris Lost and Found: A Memoir of Love author Scott Dominic Carpenter returns to France, taking readers on a journey where heartache, laughter, and love collide in unexpected ways.
Dear Reader,
My son seems to be loving college, which makes me SO happy. He’s enthusiastic about his classes and his new hockey team. Unfortunately, my 10th grader broke his wrist during a hockey game, so he’s in a cast until he heals. But I so admire his persistence; he’s committed to attending every game and practice even though he can’t participate. Other than that, the school year is off to a good start. By the time this publishes, I will hopefully have sent the final draft of my fourth book, a suspense novel, off to my agent.

Out Today (I’ve starred the ones I’ve read)
*The Examiner by Janice Hallett
Told in emails, text messages, and essays, this innovative page-turner follows a group of students in an art master's program that goes dangerously awry.
* The Mesmerist by Caroline Woods
A tightly plotted page-turner ripped from the headlines of history, as three very different women must work together to stop a killer and save the truest home they've ever known.
Mary and The Rabbit Dream by Noemi Kiss-Deaki
A sardonic, feminist reimagining of the story of Mary Toft, infamous rabbit-birthing hoaxer from the 18th century.
How To Hide In Plain Sight by Emma Noyes
When Elliot Beck arrives in Canada for her older brother's wedding, she hasn't seen her family in three years. There's a reason she fled to Manhattan and buried herself in her work--and she's not ready to share it with anyone.
The Woman Behind The Door by Roddy Doyle
The Women Behind the Door is a delicately devastating portrait of shame and the inescapable shadow it casts over families. Many readers will welcome the chance to reconnect with this strong, singular character whom we have seen in The Woman Who Walked into Doors and Paula Spencer, but all readers will be glad to have Paula in their life now.
So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison
A woman must learn to take life by the throat after a night out leads to irrevocable changes in this juicy, thrilling novel from the author of Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep.
Listen to my interview with Rachel Harrison here.
Somewhere Beyond The Sea by TJ Klune
Somewhere Beyond the Sea is the hugely anticipated sequel to TJ Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea, one of the best-loved and best-selling fantasy novels of the past decade. When Arthur is summoned to make a public statement about his dark past, he finds himself at the helm of a fight for the future that his family, and all magical people, deserve.
Olive Days by Jessica Elisheva Emerson
A smoldering debut novel about a young mother in an Orthodox Jewish community of Los Angeles whose quest for authenticity erupts in a passionate affair following a night of wife swapping.

*The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff
A servant girl escapes from a colonial settlement in the wilderness. She carries nothing with her but her wits, a few possessions, and the spark of god that burns hot within her. What she finds in this terra incognita is beyond the limits of her imagination and will bend her belief in everything that her own civilization has taught her. This wasn’t my favorite Groff, but I know so many fans of Groff who were completely absorbed in this novel.
I so enjoyed using bright colors to paint this house! It’s acrylic on hot press paper. With some mixed media thrown in.
12 x 16. Reach out if interested.
