I thought it would be fun to share some upcoming book to movie adaptations in case you’re the kind of person who insists on reading the book first. (I am!)
See a book you want to read? Click on the image or title to be taken to my Bookshop.org shop, Books Are My People, purchase the book and support independent bookstores and me, your bookish midwife!
August:
Out 8/10 Painkiller based on Barry Meier’s nonfiction book, Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic will be a series on Netflix.
Out 8/11 Based on a singular chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Last Voyage of Demeter will get a movie theater release.
Out 8/18 The movie version of M.T. Anderson’s Landscape with Invisible Hand will also be in theaters. (I want to read this one so badly!)
September:
Out 9/13 The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris will be a series on Hulu.
October:
Agatha Christie’s estate is having a banner September 15th because she has two movie’s based on her books releasing that day. The first is A Haunting in Venice (A Hercule Poirot Mystery a la Death on the Nile, which I loved!)
And the second Christie novel out on the same day is Halloween Party (they changed the spelling for the movie title). That could be quite the Christie double feature!
Out 10/6 Killers of the Flower Moon, based on the nonfiction book by David Grann is coming to a theater near you! (Unless you don’t live near a movie theater. Then I take it back,)
And out 10/13 is the series, Lessons in Chemistry, on Apple TV based on Bonnie Garmus’s novel. I’m not going to lie, I’m the most excited about this one! Click here to listen to me talk about Lessons in Chemistry on my book recommendation podcast, Books Are My People.
Which adaptations are you excited to see? Are there other book to film adaptations coming in August, September or October that I missed? Let me know in the comments below.
